Cacela Velha & the Ria Formosa

Leaving Shamwari we had a couple of days to spare before meeting Alfredo, our Spanish teacher in Jerez de la Frontier, so headed down to the Algarve coast for a bit more sunshine ☀️ Looked at a couple of motorhome Aires but decided to give them a wide berth - vans packed so tightly together, usually on gravel / concrete carpark, barely any room to even open your door - and seemingly full of people who have settled in there for the winter - not our cup of tea πŸ˜ƒ Thanks to Park4Night (fabulous App) eventually found a wonderful independent Aire, in the countryside just outside of Tavira - more our sort of place - and Ruby’s 🀣 In the grounds of an old Quinta, a huge garden area developed for motorhomes - all very quiet and relaxed, great facilities, and all for €10 per night (just place your money in the honesty box when you leave) πŸ‘

Spent an afternoon pottering around the charming old village of Cacela Velha and exploring the sands along the stunning Ria Formosa, with beautiful pictures for the memory πŸ˜ƒ

Apart from a couple of bike rides to explore the area, including the Ria Formosa cycle route along the coast which seems to run the length of the Algarve (definitely something to explore more at a future date - my sort of cycling- along greenways and minor tracks πŸ˜ƒ), a quick wiz into (and out of) Tavira for breakfast, there’s not an awful lot more to report from here - just a relaxing couple of days exploring and soaking up the sunshine ☀️

Famous octopus restaurant in Tavira - a speciality we still haven't tried πŸ˜‚

Off to Jerez de La Frontera now to meet Alfredo  - better get our CD out on the drive over and brush up on our Spanish 🀣🀣🀣

  1. Perfect - stunning coastline!
You really have found the best places too. I can imagine some people wouldn’t leave a place, having arrived, but it seems so worth the effort
